How to get rid of/weaken cat allergies?

I really really want a cat and I will be able to get one but first I need to find a way to deal with my allergies. Should I go with pills and if so which ones and how well do they work? Or should I try injections? If so how can I convince my parents to let me do so and how long will it take?
