Why does the catcher throw the ball around the infield after a strikeout?

Whenever there is an out made in the infield with no runners on base they will go "around the horn". That's true if it's a groundout, line drive, popout or strikeout. There is a little bit of time before the next batter gets to the plate so it helps keep the infielder's arms loose and keep everyone in the game.
